Why Inserter Dialog is not Available in Gutenberg and You Can’t Add Blocks
First of all, Happy New Year everyone π
And below is my second issue (the first issue was when Gutenberg didn’t work and white screen was displayed because of the disabled REST API).

Why the inserter (the round plus button) is disabled? As you can see it is grey and not active.
I tried:
- to switch my theme to default Twenty Nineteen,
- to look in my browser console and to fix all the errors there,
- to reinstall WordPress.
Nothing helpedβ¦
No information in Google as well.
Guys, you will laugh π If you faced with this issue, all you have to do is to go to your profile settings and uncheck the checkbox “Disable the visual editor when writing”

I had it unchecked because I never used TinyMCE Editor on my blog. Maybe you too. If you have any other issues, welcome to comments and let’s figure the things out together.

Thanks – had exactly the same issue. I always forget that the setting for this is in your Profile and not in the “Writing” part of the Settings.
Misha! Many thanks. I searched for almost a month looking for the fix on this problem. It’s not easy to find in WordPress either. I almost changed blog hosts or stopped blogging.
Hey Steve,
I’m glad to help! π
I ran into exactly the same thing and it took ages to find the problem! Many thanks Misha :)
Thank you so much! You solved my problem in an instant.
Fantastic! This has annoyed me for a long time. I simply couldn’t figure out why until I read your blog post.
Thank you!

I wish I could say this worked for me, but… I’m so frustrated. Going on day 4, and I’m hating it.

Sorry to hear that, maybe I could help you somehow?
Thanksssssssssss !!! It helped me xoxo

Thanks so much. I had the same issue. Spend 2 days with Bluehost and Elegant Themes Chat trying to correct. Read your article and fixed it myself.
Thanks again for sharing.
